Our trusty Games Captain, Andrew Parsons, Microsoft Technical Evangelist, suggests you check out the following resources:
- MSDN's Developing Games for Windows is a handy library that details what you need to get started as well as additional gaming resources.
- CodePlex YetiBowl is a game originally designed for demonstrating HTML5 gaming across the web. This game has also been ported to Windows 8 as a Windows 8 Store App written in HTML5 and a Windows Phone 8 HTML5 app.
- Generation App is now part of windowsstore.com. Great free tools, resources, and expert guidance to support you along a 30-day app development journey for Windows apps. Convenient that you have just about 30 days before your app is due for the online finals.
- Ch9 Game Development Options video highlights the variety of options you have at hand if you want to develop games for Windows 8. From DirectX/C++ for raw processing power, to engines like Construct2 to do a lot of hard work for you.
And follow these simple but critical tips:
- Don’t leave anything to last minute. Review the rules now and before you submit to make sure you don't miss any content OR technical requirements.
- Submit early and submit often. Make sure the upload process works for you, and don't be afraid to iterate.
- Make sure you familiarize yourself with the judging criteria details available in the rules, but I will share more about that in another blog post. Stay tuned...
