Channel9: The difference between Windows CE, Windows XP Embedded, and Windows Mobile.

Rory Blyth has just posted a video to MSDN Channel 9 that discusses the difference between Windows CE, Windows XP Embedded and Windows Mobile - check out the video here

The video was recorded in my office just a few days before the CE 6.0 Launch Event - hence the large amount of gear all over the room (actually, my office looks like this most of the time) - lots of toys to play with smile_teeth

Also, check out Derek Snyder talking about Windows Mobile (and showing some really cool devices) at 31:10 in the video.

Mike I have a quick question.. (well maybe not quick, but it's a question) I have a Linksys NSLU2 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NSLU2 I currently have linux on it, but I think it would be cool to have it running Windows Embedded CE 6.0. (before any of my friends :) In your video you talk about super support for the Intel Xscale processor. I would love to run CE 6.0 on this device. <question> Do you have a short cut to what I need to know to make this happen without having to do a deep dive into all the code? </question> Any pointers you would have to get me up and running would be appreciated.. TIA Anthony

You would need to start by either getting (unlikely), or writing a BSP (Board Support Package) for the router - this requires a bootloader, hardware adaption layer code, and drivers - this could be a lot of work.

Mike, maybe it's not going to be as hard as it might have been...  Here is what I found... Intel put together a WinCE 5.0 BSP for the NSLU2's IXP420. I watched your video that talked about migrating drivers from 5.0 to 6.0, but do you have any pointers on migrating a BSP from a WinCE 5.0 to WinCE 6.0? Is there a whitepaper or something that can start me down that road? TIA.. Anthony
