MCT Enrollment Requirements

If you’re interested in becoming an MCT, we’d love to have you! Microsoft Certified Trainers are part of a world-class community of technical professionals who support the skilling journeys of our customers. Our enrollment process is designed to validate the technical skills and instructional capabilities of trainers who want to earn the Microsoft Certified Trainer status.

To qualify as a Microsoft Certified Trainer, professionals must meet 3 requirements for enrollment. The subsequent sections of this page provide details for each of these MCT requirements:

  1. Review and agree to the MCT Program Agreement.
  2. Possess a valid MCT-qualifying credential.
  3. Provide verified proof of instructional skills through a Microsoft-approved provider.

NOTE: Your certification must still be valid (not expired) to qualify for the MCT program. An expired certification will show in your MS Learn transcript as N/A with no future date.

Review and agree to MCT Program Agreement

To begin the MCT enrollment process, first review the MCT Program Agreement for terms of membership. You will be asked to acknowledge and adhere to these terms when you submit your MCT application.

Obtain an MCT-Qualifying Credential

Your Microsoft Learn user profile must include an Associate or Expert level advanced role-based certification. This requirement for an Associate or Expert certification ensures MCTs possess advanced technical knowledge in Microsoft products and services.

  • The Microsoft Learn credentials site provides details on all role-based certifications.
    • Only credentials for technical Roles qualify for MCT status. This excludes non-technical Roles, such as Business User and Business Owner.
    • And, only those credentials denoting “Associate” or “Expert” in the certification title will qualify you for MCT Program enrollment or renewal.
    • Please note that Microsoft Office Specialist certifications do not qualify for MCT enrollment. For instance, the MOS Excel Expert certification is not an MCT-qualifying credential.
  • Once you pass a qualifying Microsoft certification exam, your MCT-qualifying credential will be reflected in your Microsoft Learn profile. You can view your Microsoft Learn credentials by clicking on the Profile option of your Microsoft Learn user icon.
  • Only 1 MCT-qualifying certification is required to enroll or renew membership in the MCT Program. However, MCTs are required to hold the associated certification for all Microsoft courses they teach to our customers.

Provide Verified Proof of Instructional Skills

As premier instructors of Microsoft technologies, MCT candidates must prove they possess the instructional skills needed to deliver engaging, world-class training experiences to our learners. New candidates applying to the MCT Program must verify their instructional skills by completing a course offered by an organization enrolled in our Instructional Skills Certificate Provider (ISCP) Program.

  • Review the MCT Instructional Skills Requirement page. This page includes the list of Microsoft-approved ISCPs and displays each organization’s language offerings.
  • Complete your instructional skills course from any Microsoft-approved ISCP you choose from this global list.
  • Once you’ve completed your instructional skills course through your selected ISCP, the organization will submit your verified training completion to our MCT Program. You must complete your MCT application within three years of receiving the ISC Certification.
  • When you complete the online MCT application, you will choose the Microsoft-approved organization which issued your instructional skills training. Your selection will be reviewed by Microsoft and verified with the information provided to us by the ISCP.

MCT qualification must be renewed each year to remain a member of the MCT Program. Verified proof of instructional skills is only required for your initial enrollment into the MCT Program. Once you become a qualified MCT, you will not be required to complete an instructional skills program for your annual MCT renewal process.
