Release Notes for Dragon Medical SpeechKit 3.3 Release 7 (Browser edition)

New in version 3.3 release 7

  • Dragon Medical SpeechKit 3.3 Release 7 (Browser edition) does not require Microsoft Silverlight for speech recognition in Apple Safari 11.0.2 or higher. No action is required on your side. [DNB-12934]
  • Dragon Medical SpeechKit 3.3 Release 7 (Browser edition) now supports press-and-hold mode to improve speech recognition results in noisy environments (requires Dragon Medical Server 3.3). The press-and-hold mode is available to all users of the PowerMic Web Extension (Chrome on Windows 7 or higher only) via the personalization & help window. [DNB-12159]
  • You can now embed the speech bar into your web page by calling the NUSA_embedSpeechBar() function. For more information, see 'Speech-enabling your browser application' in the SDK help. [DNB-9855]
  • Microsoft Edge browser is now supported. [DNB-11045]

Solved issues

  • The microphone no longer turns off unexpectedly during dictation in an environment with constant background noise. [DNB-13310]
  • The next field voice command now works correctly with auto-text fields. [DNB-11486]
  • The SDK no longer resets the cursor position after losing and regaining focus. [DNB-11238]
  • The microphone no longer stops recording on its own (this happened rarely). [DNB-13310]
  • The data-nusa-marker-container attribute is no longer ignored for some custom controls. [DNB-12492]
  • If unloading a browser page is aborted by your integration during the onBeforeUnload event, speech recognition no longer stops working. [DNB-12496]
  • The recognition rate no longer drops for short utterances (this happened rarely). [DNB-6619]
  • It is no longer possible to record into multiple browser tabs in parallel unintentionally. [DNB-11680]

Important information

  • Dragon Medical SpeechKit 3.3 Release 7 (Browser edition) requires Dragon Medical Server 3.1, 3.2 or 3.3.
  • Dragon Medical Server 3.3 is compatible with Browser editions 3.1, 3.2 and 3.3.
  • Filtering auto-texts (defining filters to deactivate auto-texts selectively) is deprecated and will no longer work.
  • Do not change or hide Browser edition GUI elements. Changing or hiding these elements risks the stability and compatibility of the product; Nuance cannot provide support for such integrations.
  • Web browser debugging consoles or debugging proxies (for example, Fiddler) cannot be used with speech recognition. The performance impact incurred by such infrastructure leads to unreliable speech recognition.

Supported edit controls

  • All HTML <input> and <textarea> controls.
  • CKEditor instances.
  • <div> elements that have the HTML5 contenteditable attribute set to true.

Known issues

  • This release does not support mobile devices, including browsers (Firefox and Chrome) that do not use Microsoft Silverlight.
  • PowerMic buttons do not work the first time a speech-enabled page is opened after the Nuance PowerMic Extension has been updated. Refresh the page to use PowerMic buttons. [DNB-12282, DNB-12253]
  • PowerMic buttons are not handled by a speech-enabled page if the user clicks outside it or opens the personalization & help window manually. [DNB-12246, DNB-12367, DNB-10612, DNB-12181]
  • If two speech-enabled pages are open and the personalization & help window is opened from one of the pages, focus sometimes jumps to the other page when using PowerMic buttons. [DNB-11710]

Infrastructure

Infrastructure no longer supported

  • Dragon Medical SpeechKit 3.3 applications do not work with any server version prior to 3.0.
  • Mozilla Firefox 44 and lower are no longer supported (see Mozilla Firefox ESR Overview: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/faq/).
  • Google Chrome 55 and lower are no longer supported.
  • Apple Safari versions lower than 11.0.2 (versions which require Microsoft Silverlight) are no longer supported.
  • In Dragon Medical Server 3.3 all version 2.0 and 2.1 client-based applications stop working.

Infrastructure changes planned for the next release

  • In Dragon Medical Server 3.4 all version 3.0 client-based applications will stop working.
  • Dragon Medical SpeechKit 3.4 applications will not work with version 3.0 servers.
  • Google Chrome 56 and lower will no longer be supported.

Remarks

  • For more information on virtualized environments, see the Docs & Guidelines folder of the Nuance virtual extensions package on the Nuance Healthcare Development Platform.
  • Citrix environments: For Nuance PowerMic button support, install the Nuance PowerMic Citrix Extension on the Citrix client and server/virtual desktop where your application is hosted.
  • VMware Horizon Client 4.3.0 or higher: Install the new 64-bit Nuance PowerMic VMware Client Extension on the VMware client.
  • For microphone button support, third-party drivers for Philips, Grundig and Olympus devices need to be provided by the device vendor and deployed both on the Citrix/RDS client and Citrix/RDS server.

*End-of-life: third party environments

Support for third party environments is only valid as long as they are supported by the corresponding vendor and might be subject to other restrictions. Please contact Nuance Technical Support for details. For more information, see the documentation delivered with the third party product and supporting Nuance documentation.

When standard support by the vendor has stopped, Nuance will continue support if an issue is specific to the Nuance solution, within the limitations of the vendor’s standard end-of-life and Nuance's policy. This means that issues that are a combination of the vendor’s component and the Nuance solution cannot be supported.
