FRAMESET XHTML Element

The FRAMESET element specifies a frameset consisting of 1 or more frames. This is a block element and requires a closing tag.

Note   Windows Mobile-based Smartphones do not support frames.

Using this Element

This element can be used within a web page with attributes.

This element can be used within scripts where it will have properties, events and methods.

Attributes

BORDER 0...# Yes* Yes* Specifies the number of pixels to reserve as space between frames. If the value is less than 3, Internet Explorer Mobile uses the value of 3.
BORDERCOLOR Special Yes Yes Sets the table border color. Table border colors are disabled on grayscale devices, and borders are always black. See BODY BGCOLOR for the format and possible color names.

This attribute is equivalent to the CSS:

border-color: {color};
CLASS   Yes Yes Associates the element with a CSS style.
Note   For Pocket PCs, supported only for devices running Windows Mobile 2003 software or later.
COLS   Yes Yes Comma-separated values specifying frame width. Values are in pixels, a percentage of the available width, or the relative value width*. After allocating space for pixel and percentage width sized frames, the remaining space is divided between relative-sized frames.
ID   Yes Yes Uniquely identifies the element within a document.
Note   For Pocket PCs, supported only for devices running Windows Mobile 2003 software or later.
ONLOAD   Yes Yes An event that occurs when the frameset is loaded.
Note   For Pocket PCs, supported only for devices running Pocket PC 2002 software or later.
ONUNLOAD   Yes Yes An event that occurs immediately before the frameset is unloaded.
Note   For Pocket PCs, supported only for devices running Pocket PC 2002 software or later.
ROWS Special Yes Yes Comma-separated values specifying frame height. Values are in pixels, a percentage of the available width, or the relative value height*. After allocating space for pixel and percentage height sized frames, the remaining space is divided between relative-sized frames.
STYLE   Yes Yes Provides the definition of the CSS styles used for this element.

Scripting Events

Event Supported Comment
onload Yes This event fires when the frameset is loaded. The onload event will not fire if the user refreshes a page. For frames pages, the onload event does not fire until all frames in the frameset are loaded.
onunload Yes This event fires immediately before the frameset is unloaded.
