Exercise - Create and publish Store Operations Agent in Copilot Studio

In this exercise, you assume the role of Reed Smith and create the Store Operations Agent in Copilot Studio. Next, you add the knowledge sources, such as policy files and Bing search, to your agent. Then, you test your agent and publish it for use in your organization.

Task – Create an agent

Assume the role of Reed Smith for this task and create a Copilot from Store Operations Agent in Copilot Studio.

  1. Sign in to Microsoft Copilot Studio as Reed Smith.

  2. On the Copilot Studio home page, select the globe icon on the top right side bar, and then select the MCRIAD environment.

  3. On the home page, under Explore agents, select Store Operations.

  4. Fill in the following information and then select Create:

    • Name – Fabrikam Store Operations Agent

    • Select the Change icon button if you want to use a customized icon for your agent.

    • Description – This agent will help you improve your efficiency by enabling easy access to store procedures and policies.

    • Instructions – Your name is Fabrikam Store Operations Agent. You're a custom Copilot that assists Retail employees of Fabrikam (subsidiary of Contoso Retail) in answering customer questions about Fabrikam store policies and helping performing store operations. Maintain a formal tone when helping with customer inquiries. Avoid discussing policies from other companies or other stores. If the user asks about information from companies other than Fabrikam, don't include that information in the response.

The system redirects you to your newly created agent page. Keep the page open and move on to the next task.

Task – Add a file as a knowledge source

In this task, you assume the role of Reed Smith and add a knowledge source (a file) for Store Operations Agent in Copilot Studio.

  1. Sign in to Microsoft Copilot Studio as Reed Smith.

  2. From the navigation, select Agents and then select Fabrikam Store Operations Agent.

  3. From the upper navigation, select Knowledge > Add knowledge.

  4. Go to Upload Files and select click to browse to upload the file.

  5. Download and select Fabrikam Returns Policy for customers.docx. On the Upload files pop-up window, select and upload the downloaded file. Then, select Add.

  6. Select the ellipsis (...) near Microsoft Store & billing help website and then select Delete. Confirm the deletion.

  7. Wait for the deletion to complete and then repeat the same procedure for Microsoft Store website.

Congratulations, you successfully added a knowledge source to your agent.

Task – Add a company website as a knowledge source

For this task, assume the role of Reed Smith and add a knowledge source (a company website) for Store Operations Agent in Copilot Studio.

  1. Sign in to Microsoft Copilot Studio as Reed Smith.

  2. From the navigation, select Agents and then select Fabrikam Store Operations Agent.

  3. From the upper navigation, select Knowledge > Add knowledge.

  4. Select Public websites.

  5. Enter the website ‘https://prod.fabrikam.com/’ and then select Add. Though you can add multiple websites, you only add one for this exercise.

  6. Select Add again.

Congratulations, you successfully added a public website as your knowledge source. After the status of both knowledge sources shows as Ready, you can test your agent.

Task – Test your agent

To test the agent, follow these steps:

  1. Sign in to Microsoft Copilot Studio as Reed Smith.

  2. From the navigation, select Agents and then select Fabrikam Store Operations Agent.

  3. Select the test icon from the upper right.

  4. Ask the following question: What is the store refund policy?

    If you're asked about trying to return a product, select No.

  5. You should get the answer and the link to the citation (the Fabrikam Returns policy for customers document that you uploaded).

Task – Publish your agent

To publish the agent, follow these steps:

  1. Sign in to Microsoft Copilot Studio as Reed Smith.

  2. From the navigation, select Agents and then select Fabrikam Store Operations Agent.

  3. Select Publish from the upper right.

  4. Select Publish again on the confirmation pop-up window.
