How Viva Insights uses behavioral insights data

Behavioral insights provide a deeper understanding of how an organization gets work done, such as through focus, learning, network, collaboration, and meetings. They do not measure Microsoft 365 Copilot or AI agent usage.

When behavioral insights are turned off, Viva Insights only uses Copilot-related analytics. Microsoft 365 collaboration data such as meetings, chats, emails, and calls are not used for analysis. As a result, several analytics capabilities aren't available.

The AI admin or Viva Insights admin can enable behavioral insights using Viva Feature Access Management (VFAM) or PowerShell. Learn how.

    FAQs

    Q1. What happens if behavioral data was previously turned on, but is now turned off?

    • Analysts won't have access to any reports that were created, customized, or shared during the time behavioral insights was on. Once behavioral insights are turned on again, these reports are accessible.

    • All auto-refresh queries stop auto-refreshing.

    • All Azure exports are paused.

    Q2. What happens if behavioral data was turned on, turned off, then turned on again?

    • Analysts can access all the reports created or published during the time when behavioral insights were first turned on, then turned off, then turned on again.

    • Auto-refresh queries are not restarted, if they were paused earlier.
