Elke sjabloonoperator converteert de argumenten naar een tekenreekstype en retourneert alleen waar als de geconverteerde waarde van links kleiner is dan de geconverteerde waarde van rechts.

Elke sjabloonoperator converteert elk van de argumenten naar een tekenreekstype en retourneert het resultaat van het vergelijken van de geconverteerde objecten voor gelijkheid.

Wanneer een sjabloonoperator de argumenten converteert naar een tekenreekstype, gebruikt deze de eerste van de volgende transformaties die van toepassing zijn:

argumenten waarvan de typen een specialisatie van klassesjabloon match_results zijn of sub_match worden geconverteerd door de str lidfunctie aan te roepen;

argumenten waarvan de typen een specialisatie van de klassesjabloon basic_string zijn, zijn ongewijzigd;

alle andere argumenttypen worden geconverteerd door de argumentwaarde door te geven aan de constructor voor een geschikte specialisatie van de klassesjabloon basic_string.
