Exercise - Create and schedule a basic work order in Dynamics 365 Field Service
In this hands-on lab, you work for a company called Contoso Coffee. Contoso is using Dynamics 365. You're a dispatcher who took on an onsite service request from a customer. You need to create and schedule the work order.
Prerequisites
Before you begin, it's important that you have the following information available.
A Microsoft 365 account with access to Dynamics 365 trial.
Modern browser (Microsoft Edge or Chrome recommended).
Lab Objectives
By the end of this lab, you will:
Create and manage a Work Order.
Schedule a Work Order
Task 1: Create a work order
- Open the Dynamics 365 Field Service Trial application.
- Using the navigation on the left, select work orders.
- On the Command bar, select the New button.
- For the Service account, select Fourth Coffee
- Under Incident Type, choose Faulty Circuit Board.
- In the Work Order Type field, select Service Call.
- Configure the rest of the work order as follows:
- Time from Promised: Todays Date at 10:00 AM
- Time to Promised: Todays date at 4:00 PM
- Select the Save button to save the record and leave it open.
- Select the Products and Services tab.
- Under Products, select the Add product button.
- Configure the work order product as follows:
- Product: Case A-100 Automatic
- Line Status: estimated
- Estimated Quantity: 1
- Leave everything else the same and select the Save button.
- Select the three dots next to the Add product and choose Refresh. (Your new product should automatically appear)
- On the work order record, select the Tasks tab.
- Select the + Add task button.
- Set the Task Type to Check Device.
- Select the three dots next to the green check mark and choose Save and Close.
Note
You might need to close the panel before continuing
- Select the Add Task button again.
- Set the Task Type to Diagnostics.
- Save and Close the service task.
- Select the Add Task button again.
- Set the Task Type to Repair.
- Save and Close the service task.
- Select the Add Task button one more time.
- Set the Task type to Clean up.
- Save and Close the service task.
- Back on the work order, select the three dots next to the Add task button.
- Choose Refresh. (All of your service tasks should display)
- On the Command bar of the work order, select the Save and Close button.
Task 2: Schedule a Work Order
Now that we created the work order, we're going to schedule a technician.
- Using the navigation on the left, select the Schedule Board.
- Select the unscheduled Work Orders tab.
- Locate the Fourth coffee work order you created earlier.
- Drag the work order to the schedule board next to Alan Steiner and hover over 7:00 AM (Notice that the item is red because we are outside their scheduled hours)
- Drag and place the work order on the schedule board next to Alan Steiner at 10:00 AM.
Congratulations, you created and scheduled a work order in Dynamics 365 Field Service.
