    Hi Lou6116,

Welcome to Microsoft 7 answers Forum!

    1.      Click on Remote Desktop Connection in the Start.

    2.      Click on Options.

    3.      Click on Advanced tab.

    4.      Click on Settings under “Connect it from anywhere”.

    5.      Click “Automatically Detect RD gateway Server Settings”.

    6.      Click OK.

You may also try the steps below:

**1.**Go to Control Panel>System>Advanced System Settings

    2. Go to Remote tab.

    3. Under Remote Assistance, put a check mark on Allow Remote Assistance connections to this computer

Note: This automatically adds Remote Desktop exception in Windows Firewall.

    4. Click on Advanced...

Click this bar to view the full image.

    5. Put a check mark on Allow this computer to be controlled remotely.

    6. Click on OK.

Note: This automatically adds Remote Assistance exception in Windows Firewall.

Let me know if this worked.

According to this blog entry on the Remote Desktop Services blog Remote Desktop [RDC] login credentials are stored locally on the RDC client. So have you tried to delete the saved login ID and password then retry the connection?

Remember the RDC login ID and password are for an account on the RDC host computer even though they are stored on the RDC client computer.

HI -  I'm having similar problems with RDC and none of the solutions here have fixed it. I have a simple Win 7 Pro peer to peer network with one pc acting as a file server and client pc's syncing to it.  All works fine but I get a wrong password or user name error when I run RDC. I've tried existing user accounts(on host) and also set up new admin account but all to no avail. Is there anything else I might try?

Thanks for that solution! It works! Although it may be tough to remember what the user name might have been at the time of installation.

I had this problem only when i tried to access rdp via ip address, when i tried accessing this via the computer name, which can be found from computer properties, i was able to login with the user name.
