When I log in, a window opens on my desktop with "Microsoft family features" in the heading, telling me to ask for permission to use "Windows Shell Experience". My account is the adult account in my family and there should not be any Microsoft family restrictions on my account. Why am I getting this window?

Apparently, there is something corrupted in the family group settings stored away on the Microsoft servers. Having cleared the family settings locally does NOT alleviate the problem, as it 're-downloads itself' again immediately upon a log-in into any Microsoft account stored on the system.

I have a hunch that this may be solved ONLY by completely deleting and recreating one's family group and its settings at account.microsoft.com

    Has anyone tried this approach?

I use my account on multiple machines and only one machine out of these has this issue. If "it re-downloads itself" then it should impact any computer I access or at minimum any computer I add family members too.

I am not entirely convinced at this point if there is a fix. Here is the reason why!

    1. I removed all family members and including my self via accounts.microsoft.com then restarted my computer; no resolve still get the message
    2. I removed all family members from my machine restarted; no resolve.
    3. I switched to local account then restarted; no resolve
    4. I created local admin account and restarted; no resolve even the new local admin got the message as if it was a child account.
    5. I deleted my original account and rebooted; no resolve

The only resolution to this was "Reset this PC".

So for those wanting to get rid of the pesky pop up either just enjoy it every time you reboot or back up everything if necessary and "Reset this PC". I chose to not keep my files, etc.
