Hinge grind

Does anyone else feel the hinge grinding when opening/closing the Duo? I started to feel it a few weeks after owning the device. However, if I open it slowly, I don't feel a grind at all.

I'm not even sure it's fair to call it a grind, because whatever is going on inside the hinge doesn't seem to affect usage. In fact, the device still folds smoothly, just with a weird feel to it.

Just a random thought... If the hinge is having problems, I wonder if that affects the hinge angle sensor, which then leads to oddball behavior like both screens being on when in single screen mode, or one screen turning on before the other.

I'm trying to determine if my hinge is actually defective or just normal wear and tear. I was well aware of the Duo's software issues before buying the device, but sometimes it's hard to separate the software from hardware issues with this thing!

I have the same issue. Got my Duo two weeks ago and opening and closing it was all buttery-smooth until it started clicking and grinding two days ago. The vibrations i feel in my fingertips are very annoying and i am concerned that it might develop into more serious problem overtime.

Did you get your replacement? is it a new device or they simply fixed yours? is the problem gone?

My replacement was brand new. I returned it within the Best Buy time frame. So it's another brand new device that does the same exact thing. I believe they all do it. It's smooth 90% of the time but once in awhile it does do that with the crunch and gear grind. Hinge is still as tight as day 1. I just don't like that feeling when it append and Microsoft should make sure they improve something on that because it shouldn't do that.

I was told it was going to be a refurb. And judging from all the other comments, it sounds like the refurb is going to do the same thing. I'm also worried that it's going to develop into something later on but there doesn't appear to be anything I can do at the moment.

Thanks for the update. Indeed, makes no sense to swap the device for a refurbished one that will have the same structural flaw.
