Why does outlook hang waiting for javascript to run in Edge?

I'm running a linux workstation, fedora. I'm using Edge Version 122.0.2353.0 (Official build) dev (64-bit)

I can't access the outlook web access, available here: https://outlook.office.com/

The page will respond, load initially but after about 30 seconds, it will stop responding to clicks and other user generated events.

Soon, I'll get the "This page is not responding ... Exit Page | Wait" that comes up when javascript is spinning hard and blocking the thread.

I had used Outlook as a PWA for a while, maybe since November of last year but I think starting January it's started doing this.

I first noticed it after coming back from work and outlook just wasn't responding then showed the popup.

Things I've tried:

* Submitting feedback via the "submit feedback" function in the help menu'

* Clearing all storage, cache, cookies

* Deleting the service workers tied to the application

It works properly in Firefox... haven't tried Chrome.

ALSO, it seems that "linux" isn't shown as an option under "Operating System" -- I've selected "Android" as it seems the closest.

I am running MX Linux 23.2 and this happens to me on the daily. Just updated this morning to Edge Version 124.0.2478.105 (Official build) (64-bit) so we'll see if anything changes. The workaround for me has been to delete cache and other data on exit using the browser settings. Yes, you need to log back in to other sites but it seems to help get me through the day without Outlook hanging.

I haven't had this happen for at least a few weeks. I'm thinking it got fixed somewhere along the way?

I'm not sure if it was an edge update, or outlook product update... but it seems to not be doing it anymore.

Edge version: 128.0.2677.1 (Official build) dev (64-bit)

    Nice!

    Updated to Microsoft Edge 124.0.2478.51

So far so good, almost 1 hour of continuous run :D (I'm crying)

Background, same as others. Hangs on PWA or Edge tab. 30sec to a min since owa was open. Works great on Chrome Tabbed or PWA.

    Pop_OS! 20.04

    EDIT: 7-May-2024

Started to hang again... 30 sec and you can't do a thing.

I find the problem still comes and goes. It'll work fine for a while then start locking up Edge with SIGBUS again for a few days before starting to work again. I see no pattern, since it happens independently of Edge updates.

I've been having Outlook for Web (https://outlook.office.com/) hang about 30 seconds after load happen on over 50% of page loads for several months and at least 4 upgrades of MS Edge. The freeze also happens after you've been away from the tab for a while and come back. It's very annoying, as the tab needs to be killed to proceed and data you've worked on can be lost. Working in outlook is almost unusable. I keep hoping upgrades will fix it but they haven't yet.

The problem is almost certainly something with the outlook website, as it applies to the Edge browser (maybe only in Linux?). I don't have problems with other website or tabs in Edge under Linux. I don't use Outlook in other browsers, but one would think if it were to work anywhere, it should be on Microsoft's own browser!

I finally opened the debug view for the website and man are there a lot of errors and exceptions. Somebody from the Outlook for Web team needs to test on Linux and sort out what's going on! How can we get their attention?

I'm currently running 124.0.2478.67 (Official build) (64-bit) in Linux Mint 21.2 kernel 6.5.0-28
