Team auto update makes app restarting even during ongoing meeting

Hi Team,

I am attending online school, which takes place once a week, for 7 hours in a whole.

I don't have other reason to use Teams, and I am sufferring from the autoupdates, which makes the program restarting during the training session.

What I understand from the communication:

Teams doesn’t provide the way to control update. The desktop client updates itself automatically. Teams checks for updates every few hours behind the scenes, downloads it, and then waits for the computer to be idle before silently installing the update.

I expect for ongoing training Teams would understand the computer is not idle, even there is no manual action (using keyboard or mouse, etc). However it is not my experience.

I also have this problem weekly - not just once a month as the article says about the Teams update - and it is getting very annoying.

As I have no real ability to prevent the restart of the program, which can take quite a time, and I lose track of the training session.

What can be the solution here? As Teams provides no chance to the end users controlling when the update gets installed.

Thanks,

Marta

Hello Mihályka, My name is Indhurani, I’ll be happy to help you today.

I understand your frustration. It can be very disruptive to have Teams restart during an online training session.

Unfortunately, there is no way to prevent Teams from automatically updating. You cannot deactivate auto-updates. More information can be found at https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftteam...

However, there are a few things you can do to minimize the impact of the updates:

    >> Check for updates manually. You can check for updates manually by going to Help > Check for updates in Teams. This will force Teams to check for updates, even if it is not idle.

    >> If the desktop client of Teams is causing disruption during your training sessions, you could try using the web version of Teams instead. This version of Teams does not require any installation, which means that there are no automatic updates.

    Teams Web: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-teams...

Also, I would suggest submitting feedback to the Teams app by selecting the Help button at the bottom lower-left of Teams and then choosing to Suggest a feature or Give feedback to tell us what you think. So that they can include the additional features that you want to see in future releases.

I hope one of these suggestions works for you!

Please let me know if you still need further assistance.

    Regards,

    Indhurani

I'm sorry but this is absolutely BROKEN.
It is UNACCEPTABLE and threatens active business relations.

New Teams doesn't support Teams Live Events, and still Teams will auto update even when waiting to go live.

New Teams is unfinished, and should not have been distributed to anyone outside a test environment much less forced upon everybody in such an outrageously aggressive manner.

For the love of all that is holy, pull this abomination back and don't EVER push any update like that again.

    FFS.

I had 2 instances when teams decided to make an update in the middle of a call. This is extremely unprofessional, and I will e switching to another provider.

I really think you should let go the people who made this mess.

Its awful. I have to keep deleting it to get a functioning system. Video simply doesn't work. Even my companies support department cant fix it. THE only way is t delete EVERY TIME prior to a call. New Teams is simply broken.

Why would you provide a link to an article clearly labeled as CLASSIC TEAMS when the OP clearly stated New Teams?

This kind of "let's send the first Google link" behavior is unhelpful to the community and stains your reputation.
