Surfacebook2 Windows 11 Upgrade Broke Wifi

Hello,

I'm having an obnoxious issue after updating a Surfacebook2 to windows 11.

The Marvell Avastar Network adapter says its working but no wifi networks pop up. This only occurred after the upgrade. Additonally, I have completely reset the device, as well as updating all the drivers, reinstalling the drivers from here but the problems continue to persist: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=56261 while it says they are compatible with windows 11, obviously this one is not.

The driver itself has not been updated since september of last year (2021) before windows 11 was released. Additionally I have tried several versions of the same driver but with no luck.

Please let me know if there are any solutions, or if others have been also experiencing this issue. I'm a bit frustrated at the lack of QA as why would you let the surfacebook be upgraded if it breaks critical hardware and now can't get on the wifi at all.

I have managed to get the ethernet to work by plugging it into a dock but then of course that defeats the entire purpose of it being a surfacebook.

    Hi Chandler Smith (csmith)"),

    Greetings!

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

I'm sorry to hear about the Wi-Fi issue on your Surface. I appreciate the effort in performing the troubleshooting methods.

Just to confirm the following questions:

    • Did you update your Surface Book 2 through settings?
    • What is the driver version of your Marvel Wi-Fi? Go to device manager > look for the Marvel driver > double-click then go to drivers tab.
    • When you reset the device, did you use the Reset this PC option through settings?
    • Do you see an exclamation point error on Marvel driver?
    • When you say you have used different versions of driver for your Wi-Fi, did you go to device manager > double-click Marvel Wi-Fi > update the driver > Let me pick from the list?

Please also perform the methods below:

    Looking forward to your updates.

    • Did you update your Surface Book 2 through settings?

Yes, through windows update cause there's no direct way to get the direct driver updates besides the link i listed. It is entirely up to date.

    • What is the driver version of your Marvel Wi-Fi? Go to device manager > look for the Marvel driver > double-click then go to drivers tab.

its the .122 version from 9/8

    • When you reset the device, did you use the Reset this PC option through settings?

    yes

    • Do you see an exclamation point error on Marvel driver?

    no

    • When you say you have used different versions of driver for your Wi-Fi, did you go to device manager > double-click Marvel Wi-Fi > update the driver > Let me pick from the list?

yes i tried every driver i had available back from 2016

None of these solutions help. I am a sys admin so I am not exactly shooting in the dark. Please let me know if there are any actual solutions other than the things I have already tried. Thank you.

The wifi card "works" but does not detect any wifi networks. however the networks are fine because literally every other device has no issue connecting to the wifi.

Try booting to the UEFI, go to the devices tab, disable WiFi/Bluetooth. Wait 30 seconds. Re-enable it. Restart. Any change? Can he see networks and connect?

    To boot to the UEFI:

    1. Shut down your Surface.
    2. Press and hold the volume-up button on your Surface and at the same time, press and release the power button.
    3. When you see the Surface logo, release the volume-up button.
The UEFI menu will display within a few seconds.

Thank you for the details. I appreciate the effort in performing the suggested methods above. Try to also refresh the Wi-Fi driver. Go to device manager > expand the network adapter, right-click the Intel Wi-Fi then choose uninstall. > Restart the device then test the Wi-Fi.

Try to also run the network commands:

    1. Select Search on the taskbar, type Command prompt. The Command Prompt button will appear. To the right of it, select Run as administratorYes.
    2. At the command prompt, run the following commands in the listed order, and then check to see if that fixes your connection problem:
      • Type netsh winsock reset and selectEnter.
      • Type netsh int ip reset and select Enter.
      • Type ipconfig /release and select Enter.
      • Type ipconfig /renew and select Enter.
      • Type ipconfig /flushdns and select Enter.

If the issue still persist, try the network reset:

    1. Select the Start button, then enter settings. Select SettingsNetwork & internet  > Advanced network settings > Network reset.
    2. On the Network reset screen, select Reset now > Yes to confirm.

Let me know how these goes.

To complicate things, this computer is remote and I have already had the end user reset network settings.

I don't believe this is a network issue on the software side, as the device connects to the ethernet on the dock just fine. It cannot see any Wifi Networks and after many hours of troubleshooting I have determined as such. This is also an entirely fresh install for win 11. Again this problem did not occur until updating. SFC and dism show no errors or corruption.

I have seen several problems with this particular hardware over the last couple of years. Does anyone have any outside of the box ideas?

    I appreciate your effort.
