Deleted Teams Channel Reappeared in my Teams Site

Hello,

I have a channel on teams that was deleted months ago but now it seems to have reappeared as a channel on the teams site. When I go to manage channels this channel does not appear as an active channel nor does it appear in the deleted channels. I have confirmed that other members in the channel can see this channel. When I click on the channel is says "We're having trouble loading your messages. Try refreshing."

How do I remove an already deleted channel?

Thanks,

    Dear krose_87,

    Good day!

Based on your description, it seems like you’re experiencing an issue where a previously deleted channel in Microsoft Teams has reappeared.

If the channel was recently deleted, it might still be in this retention period. If you want to clean up all objects of a channel, you need to delete it from Teams and then remove any other content associated with the channel manually after the retention period.

To get a better idea on your scenario, could you please share with me a screenshot of the deleted channel saw by other members? May I please know if other members can still see the deleted channel on Teams Web?

Thank you for your precious time and cooperation.

    Sincerely,

Here is a screen shot of the channel my co-worker was able to see. The channel is called "Test" and it seems that only some people within the group are able to see the channel and not others. I should mention that I am able to toggle between the new teams and old teams and the channel no longer shows up there but my co-worker who can see this channel does not have that ability.

I have tried to delete the channel again using the "..." beside it but it times out.

Experiencing the same issue as well.

Channels deleted weeks/months ago randomly re-appear.

No way to delete them again as it just times out and doesn't delete.

    Dear krose_87,

Thank you for sharing the screenshot.

May I please know if this channel still shows up when you log into Teams on the web? If it doesn't show up in the web, you can try to Clear Teams cache - Microsoft Teams | Microsoft Learn.

In the meantime, I'd like to suggest you try the following steps to see if you can delete the channel:

    1. Click on More options > Manage team > Channels.
    2. Scroll down to Deleted > expand the list of channels.
    3. If the channel appears in this list, click on Restore.
    4. After restoring, click on More options > Delete to delete the channel again.

As a global or Teams administrator you may also use Teams PowerShell and check whether this channel will show up under this team. If so, you can try to delete it here. Please see steps below. Ignore steps 1-3 if you already installed the Teams PowerShell module and just connect (step 3). Run Windows PowerShell as an administrator and input the following. Ref: Connect-MicrosoftTeams (MicrosoftTeamsPowerShell) | Microsoft Learn

    1. Set-ExecutionPolicy RemoteSigned
    2. Install-Module -Name MicrosoftTeams
    3. Import-Module MicrosoftTeams
    4. Connect-MicrosoftTeams#sign in with your admin account credentials.
    5. Get-Team -DisplayName "Team name" #copy the team group ID to use in next command
    6. Get-TeamChannel -GroupId "GroupID" #to show the active channels in the team
    7. Remove-TeamChannel -GroupId "GroupID" -DisplayName "channel name" #to remove the channel if seen in step 6.

    .

Feel free to ask if you need further assistance. Have a nice day!
